Neeraj Chopra wins a historic gold medal in athletics, giving India its best-ever medal haul of seven. 

India's long quest for a gold medal has come to an end! On Saturday, star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created history by earning gold in the javelin throw with a best throw of 87.58 meters. It's only the country's second individual gold medal, following Abhinav Bindra's win in shooting in Beijing in 2008. It's also India's first medal in a track-and-field event since the country gained independence. So, how did this once-chubby kid, who stumbled into the sport by happenstance, turn things around?

Neeraj Chopra, a javelin thrower, earned a historic Olympic gold medal, becoming India's second individual gold medalist after shooter Abhinav Bindra. India equaled their greatest ever Olympic medal tally of 6 medals thanks to wrestler Bajrang Punia's bronze.
